Rolling Requiem Website Brings Choirs Worldwide Together
Collaborative online environment provides valuable communications tools

Washington, DC, USA - Imagine on September 11, 2002, a world standing together to remember. Humanity gathered for a moment in time, to lift up its voice in song, in prayer, in honor of those who perished one year before. Now imagine putting it all together online. Initiated by members of the Seattle Symphony Chorale, it's called the Rolling Requiem. Two technology firms, ElectionMouse and Group Jazz have created a collaborative online environment that enables choirs and volunteers worldwide to plan and organize this incredible event.

The Rolling Requiem is a worldwide choral commemoration of September 11th with performances of Mozart's Requiem in each time zone. Concerts will begin on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at 8:46 AM, the moment of the first attack on the World Trade Center. Beginning at the International Date Line and cascading from time zone to time zone, these concerts will provide 24 hours of music, giving voice to hope and healing.

"The online Rolling Requiem community is experiencing the gift of enabling technology that allows choirs and volunteers to plan, organize, communicate, and fundraise in a manner that would have been otherwise impossible, due to very tight budget, geographic, logistic and time constraints," said Lisa Kimball, Founder of Group Jazz. "This event probably couldn't come together like it has without the aid of these technologies" added Brian Reich, President of ElectionMouse.

The Rolling Requiem website, available online at www.rollingrequiem.org, was produced by ElectionMouse, a web design firm based in New York and San Jose, CA. The website features a registration section, updates about the event and a template with instructions for making heart badges (heart-shaped badges for singers to wear, each bearing the name of a person who was lost on September 11th).

A password protected Planning Area, available to Rolling Requiem volunteers and participating organizations, is being organized by GroupJazz, a DC-based pioneer in the online collaborative industry that supports the work of groups both face-to-face and online. The internal space allows participants to interact with the organizing committee and others from around the world as they plan their Rolling Requiem concerts. Choirs and volunteers can access a virtual workroom designed as a planning area with staging areas that include a cafe for introductions; an area for choirs to exchange information on their concerts, a section for individual singers who are looking for choirs to sing with, fundraising and media workshops for Rolling Requiem volunteers; and, a resource center with downloadable information and music.
