The entire school district (118,000 students) listened to the Requiem over the school radio WQOX on 9/11. The broadcast began at 8:40 a.m. with an introduction by School Supt. Johnnie B. Watson and symphony conductor David Loebel. After the Requiem the Superintnedent called for a moment of silence and invited listeners to join fifth and sixth graders from the Campus School in singing "America the Beautiful." The children in Memphis City Schools had been studying Mozart, the Rolling Requiem and the music all week.
